RTV SPM Folder based Add Parameter Binding standard

When it comes to Project Parameter Binding you can handle this on a project by project basis using Shared Parameter Manager in conjunction with you currently open Revit project to Add, Replace, or Remove bindings or you can chose to Add or Remove Project parameter bindings to multiple Revit project files contained in a designated ‘Folder’ as a bulk process. To Add Project Parameter Binding to Revit files at a folder level firstly select the required Shared Parameters from the data grid to be used then click the Add Binding button from the Folder Parameter binding panel of the Project Parameter tab of the ribbon. Browse to define the ‘Folder’ containing the individual Revit Project Files that the Parameter Bindings ...

RTV SPM Remove Folder based Parameter Binding standard

When it comes to Project Parameter Binding you can handle this on a project by project basis using Shared Parameter Manager in conjunction with you currently open Revit project to Add, Replace, or Remove bindings or you can chose to Add or Remove Project parameter bindings to multiple revit project files contained in a designated ‘Folder’ as a bulk process. To remove Project Parameter Binding from Revit files at a folder level firstly select the required Shared Parameters from the data grid to be used then click the Remove Binding button from the Folder Parameter binding panel of the Project Parameter tab of the ribbon. RTV SPM Managing Family Parameters standard

As you are no doubt aware, just like we can bind a Project Parameter to a Shared Parameter, there is the need to Bind Family Parameters to a Shared parameter. In doing so it is not enough that the Parameter Name needs to match between the Revit Family and the Revit Project file, the GUID ID must also match in order for things to work as they should. Given that you cannot see the GUID related to a Parameter either in a Project or Family file environment with Revit natively this can make it difficult to ascertain when you only see the Parameter Name in Revit. Therefore SPM can make this process much easier to manage between the Project File ...

RTV SPM Adding a New Family Parameter Binding standard

To add a Family Parameter Binding ensure first of all that you have the required Revit Family (.rfa) file open in your current Revit session and then launch Shared Parameter Manager where you will see all of the tools on the Family Parameter Tab of the ribbon are active and available for use. If you don’t currently have a family file open in your Revit Session and have a Revit Project file (.rvt) open instead then some of the tools on the Family Parameter tab will be greyed out and unavailable. Select the required Shared Parameter(s) from the SPM data grid that you are wanting to create the binding for to the open Revit Family File.  You can either select ...

RTV SPM Editing Family Parameter Properties standard

First of all the actual Shared Parameter must be created first so that it appears in the data grid on the Family Parameter tab of the ribbon and then you can define the Parameter Properties respectively. Select the required Shared Parameter(s) from the SPM data grid that you are wanting to edit.  You can either select individual parameters or multiple parameters at a time and then click the Parameter Properties button from the Ribbon. Depending on whether you have selected an individual parameter or multiple parameters the following Define Family Parameter dialog box will look slightly different.  Enter or Edit the required Family Parameter values as required and click OK to exit the dialog box. In the data grid you ...

RTV SPM Non-Modifiable Family Parameters standard

This is something that for a long time Revit users / Managers have been trying to do whereby there will often be specific user created Parameters built into a family that you want to lock down so the end user cannot change the values in a project environment. This has not been an easy thing to do previously and there have been varying work around techniques circulated in the wider Revit community etc with varying degrees of success. However from Revit 2015 onwards it is now entirely possible to do exactly that using the Revit API enhancements instead which is now made even easier again with Shared Parameter Manager. To do so create the required Shared Parameter itself first of ...

RTV SPM Replacing a Family Parameter standard

There may be situations where you want to swap out and Replace an existing Family Parameter for a new one instead. This might be simply due to a Parameter Name changing, changing from Instance to Type parameter, or perhaps the type of parameter has changed from say Text based to Number based value. Ensure that you have the Revit Family file (.rfa) currently open that you are needing to replace the parameter in then launch SPM. Create a new Shared Parameter to be used for the replacement if need be or you can use an existing Shared Parameter. Switch to the Family Parameters tab and select the parameter to be used for the Replacement in the data grid and click ...

RTV SPM Updating a Family Parameter standard

This tool is for when you have modified a Parameters values within SPM that has already been loaded into a Revit Family so it can update the Parameter values. This tool can also be used to simply switch a Parameter from Type to Instance or the other way around without changing the actual parameter value. In this example the Revit Family file already contains a ‘Copyright’ parameter with an existing parameter value as per below that is to be updated. To update an existing Family Parameter make sure you have the associated Revit Family file (.rfa) open in your current Revit session then on the Family Parameters tab select the required Shared Parameter from the data grid that has already ...

RTV SPM Removing a Family Parameter standard

There may be situations when you may want to remove a Shared Parameter binding from a Revit Family. If the Parameter in the Family was originally created from a Shared Parameter file managed by SPM and added to the Revit Family then the Remove Parameter tool in SPM will allow you to remove the selected Parameter binding from the Family. If the Revit Family contains Parameters that were not created using SPM to begin with, for example if the family has come from an outside source, then using the Remove Parameter tool in SPM will not work as the parameter in question would therefore not appear in the SPM data grid to select it for removal. In this situation you ...

RTV SPM Show Family Parameters standard

Revit Families will contain a combination of Family Parameters and Shared Parameter bindings whether it is one of your own generated families or whether it has come from an another source. The Remove Parameter option in SPM will only work for Shared Parameters that exist within the SPM SQL database where by you can select a Shared Parameter from the data grid and then remove that parameter binding from the open Family file. The difference with the Show Parameters tool in SPM is that it will analyze the open Family file looking for ALL Family Parameters, including System Parameters, and not limiting you to Shared Parameters that are managed by SPM. Below is an example of a Door Family opened ...
