Once you launch RTV Reporter the first thing you will have to do is define the Revit Categories of which you are wanting to capture the parameter data from your current Revit project. Click the Categories button from the Categories & Export panel of the ribbon. You will then see the Categories dialog box where you can select the required Revit Categories to extract the Parameter data from. Once you have selected your required Categories to capture the Revit Parameter Data for you can then also save the Category List for future use. Launch the Categories dialog box again by clicking the Categories button from the Reporter Ribbon The Right hand window will automatically display a list of ‘Recently Used Categories’ which you can select from to create a saved category list or by selecting categories from the left hand window. When you have large amounts of Categories and Parameters being captured by Reporter then knowing how to manipulate the Data Grid can make finding required Parameter data a lot quicker and easier. After defining your Revit Categories to load when launching Reporter you will see ALL of the Instance and Type based parameters applicable to the category displayed in the data grid which generates the columns accordingly. Once you have setout the data grid and column visibility the way you want it to display in Reporter you can then Save the Column Layout to an .xml file for future use. To do so switch to the active Category Tab in the data grid that you want to save the column layout for and then click the Save Column Layout button from the ribbon. Browse to the location on your machine or network that you wish to save the .xml file and enter a name for the .xml schema as required. When using Reporter on a regular basis and in particular when re-using the same Categories to save you having to keep adjusting the data grid and column visibility which is time consuming you can Save the Column Layout to an .xml file and then use the Restore Column Layout feature which will then instantly set the Data Grid layout the way it was when you created the saved .xml schema. With Reporter you have the ability to create your own custom Calculation column using the actual Revit parameter values from your project. Examples of this could be when generating costing reports and you may want to combine values for say m2 x $ value to give you the calculated value as a result. If we use the Walls Category example below you can see that there are values for the Area and a Cost. You could create a custom Calculation Column combining these two figures together. If you then Exit out of Reporter and go back into Reporter you will most likely still see the same Category Tabs in the data grid but they will not be populated as shown in below example.
